This was the first year that we planned a "friend party" to celebrate Rooke's birthday. He asked for a superhero party and couldn't wait for Saturday morning to come! He had a great time, so it was well worth the effort.
We started off with superhero bingo and then the kids had to use their "x-ray vision" to guess what was in my box. I think I learn something new about the culture here almost daily and the party taught me yet another difference. After a few incorrect guesses for one boy, I opened the box and said, "It's a pickle!". Blank stares all around. Even the two parents who were there just looked at me. Apparently, they don't do pickles here and none of the kids knew what it was! Oops!
We read a couple superhero books in between some other games (including shooting darts at the "bad guy balloons" hanging in the window!). I think the boys had the most fun searching for the bad guy, capturing him, and tying him up with toilet paper so he couldn't get away. Just look at those superheroes flexing in their victory!
We served "power nuggets", "energy bursts", "super-vision sticks", and "catwoman claws" - but this was the biggest hit at the food table:
Singing to the birthday boy
Rooke was excited about the colorful surprise inside when we cut the cake!
I caught Daddy in the act of sharing with this little munchkin
Typically, they don't open presents here during the actual party. So we followed suit and waited until the kids had left, then had fun opening presents as a family.
Happy Birthday, Super Rooke!

"It's a pickle!" Hahaha...so funny! I'm glad that (other than the pickle) everything turned out well. Looks like a fun party. Way to go Rooke's Mom!
Miss Bridgitte looks like she's not sure if this is a high class enough celebration for her. At least she looks a bit skeptical. I think Rooke looks great and I would have liked to have a piece of the multi-colored birthday cake

Looks like such a great birthday celebration!! Angela, you really outdid yourself with the cake and fun games. Did I see Miss B standing? I didn't know she could.
Happy Birthday, Rooke! Looks like a great time. There was a very tall super hero in the back of one the pics. Hmmmmm. Congrats, too on the birth of your cousin Finnick.
Happy birthday Rooke! What a super fun party. Angela, the cake was amazing!
Such a wonderful party you put together -- so creative, as always! The pickle incident cracked me up -- who knew??? I can't believe he's 5 already. Happy birthday, dear Rooke.
What a great bad guy you made Ryan. Wonderful creative memorable party. Way to go supermom.
