Turning Thirty-Four and Thawing Out

This was the scene I woke up to on my birthday (on February 19 . . . yes, I'm behind in posting!).  My sweet husband woke up early enough to make a special breakfast for the family before going to work!

We watched this beautiful sunrise as we ate..

Later in the morning Patricia brought over homemade scones with clotted cream, jam, and some special teas to celebrate with me and the girls!

I felt very loved on my birthday.

Besides a wonderful breakfast, my amazing husband also gave me a plane ticket to take a break from my normal routine and go where I could thaw out from our long winter with a dear friend from college days.

I arrived late Friday night.  After a wonderful night of sleep, Kenan and I set out Saturday morning to hike Picacho Peak!  We hiked three miles up, two miles down (on a different trail) and then walked two miles back to our car, talking the entire time and soaking up the 80-degree weather.  It was a wonderful birthday gift!

I enjoyed getting to know Kenan's three kids (her oldest didn't make it in this shot).

I got to go to their church where Kenan's husband is the pastor, and enjoyed some good Mexican food, all with more good conversation, playing with kids, and soaking up the warmth.  I couldn't get enough of the amazing weather!

Then my little break was over and it was time to go home.  The airport had outdoor seating where I waited as long as possible before I had to board the plane.

I was the last person to board the plane, ready to see my family again, but not wanting to put my snow boots back on!  I needed the weekend away more than I realized.
