April's Phone Shots

We love our to-go coffee.

She was having a particularly hard day and some snuggle time with Mommy while preparing dinner helped us both.  Love the ergo.

The kids earned all their marbles from their sticker charts, so the family went to paint pottery.  Gretchen painted a pig and Rooke chose a racing car.

A dream come true!  Mom and Dad gave me tickets to see Stomp for my birthday - it was just as amazing as I had anticipated!
Our first of many lunch picnic

Walking "around the loop" with my girls on a sunny day

We inherited this chair from our Seattle neighbors.  The Hurts used it, we abused it, and now we say goodbye.  Rest in peace little white booster.  You served us well.

We had a great weekend with Nana in our home!

My view at the end of the month.  More on that later . . .

A Weekend with Nana

Remember that scene from the musical, Annie, where they dance around singing, "We got Annie!"?  That's how I felt last week when the girls and I met my parents half-way between our homes to pick up Nana for the weekend.  We got Nana!  The Payne family are big fans of Nana and had been looking forward to her visit for a long time.  It was a wonderful weekend with a woman we all love and admire.  I'm grateful that she was Nana to my kids with treats and creative games and silly songs, and then still Nana to me with more treats(!) and good conversation after the kids were in bed.

Four generations

Not only did Nana leave the comfort of home and fly half-way around the world to visit, she came prepared!  She brought a goodie bag of supplies and a vision to build a castle with Gretchen.  They spent almost two hours constructing their castle.  Rooke and Gretchen have played with it every day since!

After picking Rooke up, we headed to our local garden center cafe for an after-school treat.

We all had so much fun with Nana, it was hard to sit still for a photo!

We spent Saturday at Woburn Safari Park.  It was truly a perfect day!  After driving through the animal safari trail (with out own monkey show inside the car!), we picnicked at the top of a hill that the kids ran up and down in between bites and viewing a bird show.

Even Bridgette got in on the fun!

The ducks finished up what the kids left behind.

All three kids liked playing in the bouncy castle.
Not the best shot, but it's rare I get one with all three!

Bridgette napped in the ergo while Princess Gretchen was escorted around swan lake.

He's a great daddy.

A short little train ride that was pretty lame, but the kids didn't seem to notice!

Spring freckles have sprung!

The kids and I recently finished reading and then listening to Mr. Popper's Penguins, so they were excited to see this exhibit.

Hi there, Penguin.

Nana treated us to an ice cream break!

Thank you for a special visit, Nana.  We love you!

To Germany. Alone.

Last weekend I had the privilege and blessing of traveling to Germany by myself.
Can we just take a moment to let that sink in?
I traveled alone.
You can give a big shout out to my husband at this point.
A dear family friend was getting married.  My parents, Nana, and a few friends from Oregon were going to be there.  My wonderful neighbor offered to help with the kids while Ryan was at work.  Plane tickets were cheap.
I took off!

6:00am airport latte.  I was one of the last to board the plane.  Why not?

On the train from the airport to downtown Dusseldorf.  An hour of pretty scenery and some reading.

I walked from the train station to the hotel, dropped off my bag, and spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the city and ducking into cafes when it rained.

We spent most of the day at the wedding on Saturday.  Julie was such a beautiful and radiant bride!

Sitting with Mom and Nana at the ceremony.

I loved the time I got to spend with my parents.  It was a nice change to feel like a daughter around them instead of a mom.

The Oregon crew!  Julie was on staff at my Dad's church when I was in high school.  The other three women were some of our first friends when my family moved to Eugene back in the day.  They've been faithful in loving our family well over the years.

Love them!

Downtown Dusseldorf on Sunday morning before heading back to the airport.

How many lattes can I drink in one weekend without being interrupted and having to reheat it later?!
I had a wonderful little break, but absence made my heart grow fonder and I was ready to see my family as I made my way back home feeling refreshed and recharged.

Dying Eggs . . . and stuff

Earlier this month . . .

We dyed eggs!  Gretchen wanted to do all of hers pink!  I need to remember to boil more eggs next year.  One dozen was not nearly enough for all the fun we wanted to keep having.

Maybe next year she'll join in

On Easter Sunday, Bridgette wore the dress her sister wore for Easter two years ago.  The dress is pretty much the only similarity I see in these two!

Rooke was out of school the past two weeks for Spring Break.  We made our own water fountain one morning and had fun playing and experimenting for about an hour!  I found the idea here.  Just in case you try this with your kids: we think duct tape works better at plugging the hole than blue tac.

He discovered that he can make air pressure like the balloon!
